Professor Jon Glasby
Sustainable Care Senior Team, Co-Lead for Care Systems
Jon is a qualified social worker by background and Head of the School of Social Policy. Specialising in joint work between health and social care, Jon is involved in regular policy analysis and advice.
He is the author of a series of leading textbooks on health and social services, sits on the advisory board of The Policy Press, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Integrated Care.
From 2008 to 2015, he was Director of the University’s Health Services Management Centre (HSMC). He is currently a Non-Executive Director (NED) of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, has previously served as a NED at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (2010-2015) and, from 2003 to 2009, was the Secretary of State’s representative on the board of the UK Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).
Jon is also a Fellow of the RSA, a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Senior Fellow of the NIHR School for Social Care Research and Adjunct Professor at the School of Public Health, Curtin University, Western Australia.

Community Care services for older people
In 2010, Jon led work for Downing Street and the Department of Health modelling the future costs of adult social care under different reform scenarios – and this work is to be repeated, updated and extended as part of the sustainable care project.
The University of Birmingham is also leading work comparing care systems across the four countries of the UK.
For the Sustainable Care programme, Jon is joint lead for Care Systems (comparing UK care systems; modelling care system costs and contributions; achieving sustainability in care systems; and migrant care workers in the UK).
