Professor Jill Manthorpe
Sustainable Care Senior Team, Co-Lead for Care Work and Relationships
Jill Manthorpe is Professor of Social Work and Director of the Social Care Workforce Research Unit at King’s College London.
With a Master’s degree in social policy, she has worked in the not-for-profit sector and in higher education. She has a long-standing personal and professional interest in caring and was Chair of a local Carers’ Strategy Group at the time of the first UK Carers’ Strategy.
She has a strong portfolio of work on paid care work, covering social work, primary care, social care and the housing sector.
In recent years much of her research has combined different methods and approaches. Following several years as a NHS Non-Executive Director, she is now a Trustee of a large care provider in the not-for-profit sector.
Jill plays a senior role in the Sustainable Care programme, bringing her policy expertise and her wealth of experience in social care research to the team.
As a National Institute for Health (NIHR) Senior Investigator Emeritus, she is also keen to help build research capacity and assist early career researchers.
Her links to practice are proving a great asset in bridging potential gaps between family care and paid care work. Her international links provide a further dimension to her involvement in Sustainable Care.
