I currently work in the Department of Work and Pensions as a lead researcher and head of analysis on older workers, pensioner benefits and carers’ employment and carers’ allowance.

I have a wide interest in and experience of employment and labour market support for disadvantaged groups and have previously been responsible for the evaluation of active labour market programmes including the New Deal for Lone Parents and more recently Universal Credit, where I led on the development of the overarching evaluation strategy.

I have a strong interest in the labour market progression of women and the impact of non-standard employment contracts on career progression. This area of research was the focus of my doctoral studies. I have maintained a keen interest in the changing nature of employment practices, with a particular focus on parental employment and the role of household decision making on career progression.

I am an active member of the Government Social Research community and am keen to ensure that government research develops and encourages strong links with academia through co-sponsorship of research projects, membership of steering groups and the promotion of civil service internships for early careers academics.
